Historic Preservation to Restore Our 3 Rose Windows

Old First is a nationally

recognized historic landmark, listed on the National Register of Historic Places and a

grantee of the National Fund for Sacred Places. This year, Old First Preservation & Community Foundation

(OFPCF) has been awarded a $675,000 grant from the NYS Department of Parks,

Recreation and Historic

Preservation to restore our 3 rose windows.

Building Restoration

Old First Reformed Church is recognized nationally as a historic landmark worthy of preservation, and is listed on the National Trust for Historic PreservationThe National Fund for Sacred Places has awarded Old First participation in its selective grant-making program, Partners for Sacred Places. As we near completion of Phase 1 of our sanctuary restoration, following a successful 10-year capital campaign to restore the 1891 church building, even more miracles are coming our way.

Work Completed To Date ($3 million)

  • Old First Raised $3 million

    • Sanctuary ceiling fully restored

    • Electrical wiring updated

    • Floors repaired; pews restored

    • Pipe organ reopened for use

    • Restored historic lighting fixtures

    • Updated lighting system in

    entire building

What Needs to be Done ($5-$7 million)

  • Repair and restoration of all stained glass windows in the Sanctuary, including 19th century windows by Tiffany, Heinigke and Willet

  • Restore the 19th century Roosevelt Pipe Organ

  • Renovate the Carroll Street building for ADA accessibility, to increase our capacity to fulfill our mission and bless the community of Park Slope, Brooklyn

  • Community-use building upgrades
